Pictured Above: 2005 smoky black AQHA filly, Shes A Blazing Star, foaled 5/15/05. According to AQHA's advice, this filly is registered as a black. But she is what is called "smoky black". This means she carries the dilute gene, and when bred with a stallion who also carries the dilute gene, she may produce a perlino or cremello foal. She gets coal black in the fall when she gets her winter hair, and stays coal black until summer. Being a smoky black adds value to this young mare, for anyone looking to raise dilute gene horses. The perlino filly below is out of Lil Bros Cinderella, who is the grandmother to the filly pictured above. Lil Bros Cinderella is also a smoky black. Dam of this filly is Gundys Blazing Star, and sire is Hes A Sundance King.
